Congratulations to 10U Player Maggie Ferril!

Maggie Ferril, a 4th grader at Orono Intermediate School, placed 2nd in the 2018 Minnesota Twins Baseball Skills competition!

Nearly 1,000 boys and girls ages six to fourteen participated in the competition consisting of batting, fielding, throwing and running skills.  At the conclusion of the summer, the top ten finishers in each age category were invited to compete in the Champions Day finals.

This year Champions Day was held at Target Field on Saturday, September 22.  Ferril qualified for the finals when she attended the Twins Camp in Delano last August, impressing coaches with her skill level in all four categories.  Ferril competed in the 4th grade bracket and finished strong, taking 2nd place overall in the competition.

Travel-Lite (Recreational) Program

D1 - Current PreK-1st Graders (must be 5 years of age by Sept 1, 2018 to participate).  Players may hit off a stationary batting tee or from a pitch by the coach, depending on ability.  No scores will be recorded or standings kept.  We rotate through the full lineup for batting so every player bats each inning, regardless of whether there are any "outs".   These teams play other Orono D1 teams and a few other nearby schools, and games are limited to one hour. Home practices and games are typically at Rainbow Park in Maple Plain.

D2 - Current 2nd & 3rd Graders.  Machine-pitch.

In this recreational league, fundamental skills and rules of the game are taught.  The coach will pitch to each of the batters on his or her own team using a pitching machine.   The teams do keep score, so "outs" count, but stealing bases is not permitted.  The teams play other Orono D2 teams, as well as nearby schools.  This is a great way to learn the game and improve skills.

In the past, practices and home games for the D2 players are typically on  Mondays and Wednesdays at the Orono Discovery Center in Maple Plain.  Games typically start at 6:30, and practice start times vary by coach, but usually start between 5:00 and 6:30 p.m.
