Travel vs Recreational

Travel Softball REC (lite travel) Softball- D1/D2/D3

Travel teams have some weekend tournaments with local travel. Team are formed based on their birth year, so a team may have 3 different grades on it.

 

Example: A 3rd grader with a 2012 birthday can try out for 10U and be placed on a team with other 2011 and 2012 birthdays.

Recreational teams are perfect for players who are new to the game of softball. Rec teams WILL travel to other communities for games. Rec softball teams are formed based on their birth year, so a team may have 3 different grades on it.

 

Example: A 3rd grader with a 2012 birthday can try out for 10U and be placed on a team with other 2011 and 2012 birthdays.

8U: 2013, 2014, 2015 birth year

  - Introduction into softball using a pitching machine.

  - Practices Monday and Wednesday, with games starting in May.

  - 2-3 weekend tournaments.

  - Season mid April - mid July.

  - Cost $260

D1: 2015, 2016, 2017(must be 5 by Sept 1st) birth year

  - Coach pitch.

  - Practice and games are on Mondays and Wednesdays.

  - Season Late April-End of June.

  - Cost $120

10U: 2011 and 2012 birth year

  - Girl pitch.

  - Practices Tuesday and Thursdays, with a double header games starting in May.

  - 3-5 tournaments.

  - Season Early April - End of July.

  - Cost $375

D2: 2013 and 2014 birth year

  - Introduction into softball using a pitching machine and modified rules.

  - Practice and games are on Mondays and Wednesdays.

  - One season ending tournament.

  - Season Late April- Mid July.

  - Cost $200

12U: 2009 and 2010 birth year

  - Girl pitch.

  - Practices Monday and Wednesday, with double header games starting in May.

  - 4-6 tournaments.

  - Season Early April - End of July.

  - Cost $410

D3: 2011 and 2012 birth year

  - Girl Pitch with modified rules.

  - Practice and games are Tuesday and Thursdays.

  - One season ending tournament.

  - Season Late April- Mid July.

  - Cost $275

2022 Important Dates

  • January 31, 2022 Spring Registration opens
  • Thursday, February 24th "TRY SOFTBALL" night 6:30-8:00pm at the Activity Center
  • Saturday, February 26th 10u/12u travel pre-tryouts 6:00-8:00pm at the Orono  Dome
  • Saturday, March 5th 10u/12u travel tryouts at the Orono Dome (will be assigned a time between 4:00pm and 6:00pm)
  • Week of April 4th 10u/12u travel practice starts
  • Week of April 11th 8U travel practice starts
  • Week of April 18th D2/D3 Rec practice starts
  • Week of April 25th D1 Rec practice starts
  • Friday, April 29th Team Picture Night

OSA 2022 “Winter Warm Up” Clinics

OSA is excited to announce a 6-week series of clinics that will be ran by experienced OSA coaches, Orono High School players and Orono Alumni.  The focus will be to provide interested OSA players skill development in a fun, structured and positive environment.  Whether you’re brand new to softball, looking to hone in on a specific defensive skill, get in preseason reps or just connect with teammates, we will have something to offer to all levels (inexperienced and experienced) of players; both in house and travel.  Check your schedules, align dates with a friend or two and join in on the fun! 

Where: Orono High School Gym
When:  Sundays 3:00-5:00 
                      1/2, 1/9, 1/16, 1/30, 2/6, 2/13

What:      Week 1 and 2 – General Skills (Hitting and Defense)
                     Week 3 – Pitching, Catching
                    
 Week 4 and 5– General Skills (Hitting and Defense)
                     Week 6 – Pitching, Catching

Pay using Venmo @Orono-Softball or pay cash upon arrival

Drop OffPlease drop off promptly at 3:00.  Parents should come inside if opting to pay cash.

No pre-registration is required, but we ask that you fill in your information using the link below so we can plan for each session accordingly.  Walk-ins are certainly welcomed as well if you decide to come last minute.
