OSA Recreational Softball

2023 OSA Recreational Softball

Orono Softball Association Recreational  teams are perfect for players who are less experienced and prefer less weekend commitment. Recreation softball competition levels will match with other recreation teams. Rec teams WILL travel to surrounding communities for games. Teams are formed based on birth year of the player. Try outs are not required and accommodations can be made on team formations based on age and grade level.

Coach Pitch $120 – 2016, 2017, 2018 birth years (must be 5 years old by Sept 1, 2023 to participate)

This is a recreational-like league that introduces beginners to the game of softball by teaching fundamentals of the game, and engaging the players in fun and friendly environment designed to encourage a love of the game. Players may hit off a stationary batting tee or from a pitch by the coach, depending on ability. No scores will be recorded or standings kept. Teams rotate through their full batting lineup each inning (there are no "outs"). The focus is on learning about softball, even during games. These teams play other Orono D1 teams and a possibly a few other nearby schools, and games are limited to one hour. Home practices and games are at Rainbow Park in Maple Plain, typically 6-7:00pm. See D1 Rules below.

8U Rec $200 – 2014, 2015 and 2016 birth years

In this recreational league, fundamental skills and rules of the game are taught. The coach will pitch to each of the batters on his or her own team using a pitching machine. The teams do keep score, so "outs" count, but stealing bases and sliding are not permitted. The teams play other Orono D2 teams, as well as nearby schools. This is a great way to learn the game and improve skills. See D2 Rules below.

Practices and home games for the D2 players are typically Mondays and Wednesdays at the Orono Discovery Center in Maple Plain. Games start at 6:30pm, and practices are typically 6-7:00pm.

10U Rec $275 – 2012 and 2013 birth years

In this recreational league, fundamental skills and rules of the game are taught. The players will pitch. Games will be played against teams within the PWYSA league. Practices and games are typically Tuesdays and Thursdays. See D3 Rules below.
